THE DARKNESS
A part of my soul was taken from me
stolen away as if by a thief
ripped from my heart almost savagely
its radiance darkened to the light
but unnoticed as if spirited away by magic
The sun shone brightly in the depths of my soul
feeding me hope, happiness and lies
lighting my heart with it's warm summer glow
I drank from the waters of betrayal willingly
its taste sweet, soothing and poisoned
The sun set low on the horizon
casting shadows into the crevices of my soul
the darkness came swift and sudden
its cold grip destroying all that came before it
hope, happiness and love crushed as an afterthought
I screamed at the pain of my lost soul,
at the coldness of my shattered heart
wondering if I would ever see the sun
I stood and cried in grief for the light
and prayed for the darkness
